    Telefónica sells Movistar Uruguay to Millicom

    The move was a part of Telefónica's large-scale departure from Latin America

    The Spanish company Telefónica, through its subsidiary Telefónica Hispanoamérica, sold its Movistar Uruguay business to Millicom, a Luxembourg-based company operating under the Tigo brand, as part of its strategy to reduce its presence in Latin America. The transaction, announced to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), is now subject to regulatory approvals. It is also a part of Telefónica's asset divestment plan, following sales in Argentina, Colombia, and Peru in 2024, totaling over US$2 billion.

    In Paraguay, exports under the Maquila regime totaled US$ 388 million as of April 2025, a 13% yoy increase driven mainly by auto parts, textiles, aluminum products, food, and plastics, currently generating 32,712 direct jobs, a 26% growth from the previous year.

    Fully electric China Zorrilla ship launched in Australia

    The China Zorrilla, the world’s largest 100% electric ferry, was launched on May 2, 2025, at Incat’s shipyard in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Commissioned by Buquebus, the 130-meter vessel will connect Argentina and Uruguay across the River Plate, carrying up to 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles. The vessel is due in Uruguay in the last quarter of 2025. It was the ninth unit Incat has built for Buquebus.

Flybondi has completed all required phases and is awaiting itinerary approval based on fleet availability. Andina Airlines is still in the certification process, while Go Airlines is in an earlier stage. Additionally, Arajet from the Dominican Republic is nearing authorization, only lacking the final demonstration phase.
