  First case of autochthonous dengue reported in Uruguay

  

  Uruguay's Health Ministry confirmed Friday the first case of autochthonous dengue in the country. There are currently 32 confirmed cases of imported infections, according to Montevideo outlets. The last autochthonous case in Uruguay dates back to 2020 and only three detections were registered in the country in the past four years.

  Uruguayan State summoned by Inter-American Commission over nationality treatment

  

  The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has summoned the Uruguayan State following concerns raised by the association Somos Todos Uruguayos regarding the treatment of Uruguayan nationality and the risk of statelessness. The hearing is scheduled for this Tuesday in Washington DC.

  Uruguay signs MOU to produce green hydrogen locally

  

  The Government of Uruguay Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the company HIF for the building of a green hydrogen plant in the department (province) of Paysandú. The US$ 6 billion investment is expected to generate some 3,000 jobs.

  Uruguay managed during the first two months of this year 100% renewable energy generation and had sufficient surplus to supply neighbors Argentina and Brazil, making the local government-owned power company, UTE, the major single exporting company. The measure was announced after the discovery of a human trafficking network in the mining sector of the department (province) of Artigas bordering both Argentina and Brazil.

  Controversial reporter files criminal case against Uruguayan president

  

  Uruguayan reporter Jorge Bonica, who achieved notoriety in his country for continuous allegations against leading political figures and even tried his luck with the Basta Ya political party allegedly targeting corruption, Friday filed a criminal complaint against President Luis Lacalle Pou for smuggling and influence peddling. The head of state was said to have allowed the entry of Argentine goods into the country.

  Uruguay beef export up 11,5% in January; Brazil to remain leader in poultry and beef global sales

  

  During the first month of the year, Uruguay exported 52.935 tons of beef, an 11,5% increase over the same period in 2023. However the overall income for the shipments was up 7.9%, and this was because export prices on average were down 3.3%.
