  Argentina: Fires in Patagonian National Parks close to being controlled

  

  Firefighters in the Argentine National Parks of Los Alerces and Nahuel Huapi were closer Monday to “controlling” and “containing” part of the catastrophe. In Los Alerces, there were still active outbreaks in addition to some 8,000 hectares of native forest burned down, it was reported.

  Positive avian flu confirmed in wandering albatross in South Georgia

  

  Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) continues to affect the wildlife on the sub-antarctic islands of South Georgia. The latest results from samples taken from the islands reveal that the disease has now been detected in the wandering albatross (as at 9 February 2024).

  FBI asked to help Chubut in National Park fire case

  

  The Argentine province of Chubut has asked the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for help in the probe into the fires in the Los Alerces National Park, Governor Ignacio Torres announced after meeting with US Ambassador Marc Stanley. “We need to find those responsible as soon as possible, and that there is an exemplary measure in the courts,” said Torres about the catastrophe that has been ongoing since Jan. 25 in which some 8,000 hectares have already been burned down.
