    Paraguay has been authorized by Israel's Veterinary and Animal Health Service (IVSAH) to sell beef on the bone to that country, the National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa) announced Sunday in Asunción. Uruguay Israel's approval on Jan. 8.

    Paraguay's incipient pig farming exported 5,500 tons of pork to Taiwan in 2023

    Paraguay pork exports, including offal, reached 7,689 tons in 2023. This signifies a substantial increase of 541% compared to 2022, when only 1,184 tons were shipped.

    Following on the opening of the Taiwanese market for Paraguay pork exports, 2023 finished with a remarkable growth of 550%, over 2022, both in volume and value. Paraguay is one of the very few countries in the world that still has full diplomatic relations with the Republic of China, better known as Taiwan.

    Ecuador: Authorities regain control of prisons, free hostages

    Ecuador's forces retook control of all the country's prisons and freed some 150 corrections officers who were being held hostage by the rioting inmates, it was reported this past weekend. However, one guard was killed during a shootout in the operation.

    At least eleven people died and many others needed to be evacuated this weekend after heavy rains hit Rio de Janeiro causing severe flooding and damage to numerous houses that were left under water. The Federal Government decreed a maximum alert. The risk of further flooding and landslides remains very high, it was also explained.

    Largest cruise vessel in the world preparing in Miami for Caribbean trips

    The 365-meter-long Icon of the Seas has a gross tonnage of 248,655 tons. It can accommodate up to 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members.

    The “Icon of the Seas”, the world’s largest and most advanced cruise ship to date, has arrived in Miami, ahead of its official debut on January 27. Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku delivered the ship to US-based cruise company Royal Caribbean International in November last year.

    FAO launches fishing Global Information Exchange System under the 2009 agreement on port measures

    Through the GIES, Parties to the PSMA can now share information such as denials for foreign vessels to enter into or use ports, as well as reports of inspections conducted on vessels in their ports.

    Global exchange of information on compliance with national, regional, and international fisheries laws and regulations governing sustainable fishing is now possible with the launch of the Global Information Exchange System, GIES, by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN.
